Language Barrier

The Calhoun County 9-1-1 District uses Language Line Services to process calls from Non-English speaking callers. Our call takers transfer the caller to a translator who in turns provides us with the emergency information.

Communications With Impaired Callers

The Calhoun County 9-1-1 District personnel are trained to answer and process calls from TTY users. Deaf, hearing and/or speech impaired callers receive the same level of service from our Telecommunicators.

Each open line or silent call is challenged with a TTY machine to determine if it is an emergency call for service.

Personnel use a TTY, Hearing Carry Over and Voice Carry Over integrated TTY system to process these calls and then relay the information to the appropriate agency for the emergency type and location.
