The Calhoun County 9-1-1 District seeks to provide the most effective emergency communications possible while providing good jobs to qualified individuals. The District seeks to ensure an appropriate pay and benefits scale for all employees while developing professional standards and training programs to help achieve the District's goals.
Calhoun County 9-1-1 District carries out tasks with an eye toward the future and strive to make innovative, cost-effective decisions to benefit the agency as well as all Calhoun County.

General Information
In December of 1986, the Citizens of Calhoun County voted to implement an Enhanced 9-1-1 System.
In July of 1988, the Board of Commissioners for the Calhoun County 9-1-1 District appointed its first Director and the hard work began. The county was addressed, giving each house or structure its own unique address. A building to house the system was purchased and re-modeled to fit the needs of an Emergency Communcations system. A staff of twelve personnel was hired and trained to perform the duties of a 9-1-1 Dispatcher. The system became active in March of 1989.
The Calhoun County 9-1-1 District is funded solely by a surcharge on telephone service. A 4% charge of the Complete Choice package is collected for funding which equals to $2.50 per month for residental customers and business lines. The revenue collected is used to pay all salaries and operational costs of the 9-1-1 District.
Wireless revenue received by the Cahoun County 9-1-1 District is based on population. All moneies collected from wireless phones are sent to the Alabama Wireless Board, which then remits monies back to the Calhoun County 9-1-1 District based on a percent of the state's population. The use of wireless phones continues to increase and on the averages accounts for 60% of the total calls received by the Calhoun County 9-1-1's Communication Center.
Calhoun County 9-1-1 District Board of Commissioners
A Board of Commissioners was appointed by the Calhoun County Commission to oversee the operation of the 9-1-1 system. The Board employs a Director to manage the daily operation of the Calhoun County 9-1-1 District.

The Board Meeting is held the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm in the 9-1-1 Business Office in Jacksonville, AL. The public is cordially invited to attend.
