Jerry W. Jackson, ENP
Director
CALHOUN COUNTY 9-1-1 District

In December 1986 the citizens of Calhoun County voted to implement an Enhanced 9-1-1 System for Calhoun County.

In July 1988 the Board of Commissioners for the Calhoun County 9-1-1 District appointed its first Director and months of hard work began. The county had to be addressed, thus giving each house or structure its own unique address. A building to house the system had to be purchased and re-modeled to fit the needs of an emergency communication system. A staff of twelve was hired and trained to perform the duties of a 9-1-1 dispatcher. At last the system was turned on in the Spring of 1989.

The Calhoun County 9-1-1 District is funded solely by a surcharge on telephone service. A 4% charge of the Complete Choice package is collected for funding which amounts to $1.36 per month for residential customers. A$2.20 fee is collected for all business lines. The revenue is used to pay all salaries and operational costs for the District.

A Board of Commissioners was appointed by the Calhoun County Commission to oversee the operation of the 9-1-1 system. The Board employs a Director to manage the daily operation of the system.
