EVENTS Calhoun
County 9-1-1 District has an education program
called “The R.E.A.D.Y. Program.” The R.E.A.D.Y.
Program’s acronyms are to Respond, Educate, And
Develop our Youth. The 9-1-1 mascot, Red E. Fox,
goes to area schools with our employees to educate
children about the proper use of 9-1-1, being safe,
and how to become a 9-1-1 Hero. Each student also
receives educational items, as well as coloring
books, that instruct children about when you would
call 9-1-1.
Calhoun County
9-1-1 District also presents the HERO award to
children (between the ages of 2 – 12) who call 9-1-1
and report an actual emergency. The child attends
the monthly board meeting held at the Calhoun County
9-1-1 District’s office. During the meeting, the
child is given a HERO certificate, a HERO t-shirt,
and other educational items. The child also meets
Red E. Fox who “praises” the child for a job well
done.

We also assist
our veterans with the Veterans Day and Memorial Day
events.
One of the most
FUN AND REWARDING events the District
participates in is the “Special Kids Fishing
Classic”. This is a one-day event in which special
needs kids from Calhoun County and Cleburne County
schools get to catch “BIG” fish, turtle or whatever
else happens to bite the hook. No words can
describe the excitement, fun and rewarding feelings
surrounding this event. The pictures speak form
themselves.

If
you would like someone to come and speak to your
school, agency or program about how 9-1-1 works, or
about any educational programs we offer, please
contact Amy Adams at the Calhoun County 9-1-1
District Office at (256) 237-9119, extension 229.
