Address Request Form Please fill out and return

In 1996 the
Calhoun County Commission granted the 9-1-1 District
the authority to address the unincorporated areas
within Calhoun County. We do not address any
property located within the city limits of Calhoun
County, although we do have a verbal contract with
the City of Oxford to handle their addressing.
The district's
addressing system is a unit system based on distance
or mileage. A mile= 5,280', meaning 1000 addresses
can be in a mile if needed or every 5.28' is a new
address. Most roads are addressed beginning at the
south end and going north and from the west to the
east.
From the
beginning of the road, odd addresses are on the left
and even addresses are on the right.
Although you may
have more than one structure on the same property
each structure must have an individual address for
9-1-1 purposes. To obtain a new 9-1-1 address please
call the 9-1-1 business office and have the
following information on hand:
1.
Street
name you will be moving to.
2.
Nearest
neighbor to your property or if it's an existing
subdivision have lot number of the lot you purchased
available.
3.
Name of
adults that will be living at the new location.
4.
Daytime/evening phone of someone with knowledge of
property you are requesting address for.
5.
A current
mailing address to receive your new address.
6.
Last but not
least, if the proposed structure is not on the
property please mark the property with a stake
visible from the main road.
The Calhoun
County 9-1-1 District policy asks that you allow the
GIS Technician 5-7 business days to obtain your
address. Within that time the GIS Technician will
visit the property, assign an address, and mail it
to you. Once you receive your new address, please
post it on both sides of your mailbox and on the
structure visible from the road. If your home is
not visible from the road please post your address
at your driveway. This will assist emergency
personnel in locating your house.
Road naming
policy
Residents
requesting a road name (new road or existing road)
shall contact the Calhoun County 9-1-1 District GIS
Technician to obtain a copy of the policy.
For a
road/driveway to be assigned a formal name there
must be at least 5 structures on the road or the
property subdivided into at least five lots.
The Director of
the Calhoun County 9-1-1 District will have the
final authority in determining if the road should be
named and addressed.
The Calhoun
County 9-1-1 District will not permit the assignment
of a road name if there is an existing road within
the county. (if the proposed name is Dogwood Dr and
there is already a Dogwood Ave, the proposed road
name will be disapproved)
At least 75% of
the property owners adjoining the proposed road must
agree to the proposed name and sign a petition. Each
property owner is allowed one vote, regardless of
the amount of property owned. Property that is
jointly owned requires the signature of all parties
involved.
A petition and
related documents will remain on file at the Calhoun
County 9-1-1 District business office.
Subdivision
addressing
The GIS
Technician has established guidelines that must be
adhered to before addresses can be issued to a
proposed subdivision.
1. A recorded
plat must be turned over to the Calhoun County 9-1-1
District.
2. All roads must
be accessible from beginning to end.
3. Each
subdivided lot must be numbered and the number must
be visible
from the road
